US regulators have fined Mars Wrigley, the maker of Snickers and Skittles, after two employees fell into a tank of chocolate at its Pennsylvania manufacturing facility final June.
The Occupational Security and Well being Administration fined the confectionery and chewing gum maker $14,500 for the incident, which it described as “severe” in a report.
“Staff of an outdoor employer, I.Ok. Stoltzfus Service Corp., cleaned tanks, together with the Dove chocolate batching 20 micron tank, owned by the onsite/host employer, Mars Wrigley,” the report stated.
Mars Wrigley failed to supply the contractors with enough security coaching, the doc added.
In accordance with Penn Live, an area information website, firefighters rescued the employees by drilling a gap within the backside of the tank and pulling them out. The chocolate was about waist-high, it reported.
“The security of our Associates and out of doors contractors are a prime precedence for our enterprise,” a spokesperson for Mars Wrigley stated in an announcement. “As at all times, we respect OSHA’s collaborative strategy to working with us to conduct the after-action assessment.”
