An explosion rocked a preferred pedestrian avenue within the Turkish metropolis of Istanbul, injuring a lot of folks, a senior official stated Sunday.
Istanbul Gov. Ali Yerlikaya tweeted that the blast “occurred in Taksim Istiklal Road,” a crowded thoroughfare lined by outlets and eating places, at about 4:20 p.m. native time (8:20 a.m. ET).
“There are casualties and accidents,” he stated, including that emergency providers had been despatched to the scene.
It was unclear what prompted the explosion.
